Former Assistant United States Attorney, David Hoovler strengthens the firms fast growing trial practice handling both criminal and civil matters in Federal and State courts. Mr. Hoovler brings a unique set of skills to the practice acquired during more than a decade in law enforcement as a police officer, Assistant District Attorney in Bronx and Orange Counties and his recent service in the U.S. Attorneys Office.
During his tenure with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and District Attorney’s Offices. Mr. Hoovler specialized in electronic surveillance related issues, wiretapping, and intricate conspiracy cases. He served at the Department of Justice’s Electronic Surveillance Unit, in Washington, DC. During his tenure in the Bronx he was involved in prosecution of white collar crimes and police misconduct cases involving excessive force. Mr. Hoovler investigated and was assigned to the prosecution teams on a number of notable cases, including the Amadou Diallo shooting. In Orange County he served as lead prosecutor bringing about the demise of the Benkard Barrio Kings (BBK) street gang which operated in Newburgh, N.Y. and was found responsible for considerable drug traffic and more than 30 violent crimes within Orange County. Hoovler also headed the prosecution of Operation East End case involving a major cocaine ring in Orange County.
His work earned him awards from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York Federal Executive Board for excellence in prosecution. Mr. Hoovler was honored as the New York State Arson Prosecutor of the Year in 2002; and he was recognized by the National District Attorneys Association in 2004 for the prosecution of a national dog fighting promoter.
Mr. Hoovler is admitted to practice law in New York, Maryland and Massachusetts and Federal District Courts throughout the United States. He holds degrees from the University of Maryland and is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Michigan State School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review and Managing Editor of the Sports and Entertainment Law Journal.
