Community notification and the level of law enforcement scrutiny you will be subject to depend on your offender designation and risk level, which will be determined during a hearing upon your release. There are three risk levels:
- Risk 1: There is a low likelihood of a repeat offense
- Risk 2: There is a moderate likelihood of a repeat offense
- Risk 3: Offender is of high risk of a repeat offense
Factors considered in determining your level are: the amount of violence used, the involvement of drugs or alcohol, the use of force, the number of victims, the ages of the victims, and the injuries associated with the criminal act.
Typically, registration is a lifetime requirement. There are, however, exceptions, such as a Level 1 offender who poses no risk. Some offenders may also qualify to file a petition for relief from registration or risk level.
